The Old Arthur's line of Barbecue Sauces and Dry Rubs were first crafted by Arthur Watts, one of America's earliest Pitmasters. These recipes have been guarded and passed down through our family over 160 years.
Arthur was born into slavery in spring 1837 , just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. His daily job for the first 28 years of life was barbecuing over "open pit". This is where he began to craft the exceptional flavors which he relied upon to complement the foods he prepared. After winning freedom through the Emancipation Proclamation, these recipes and skill were the only items of value which Arthur carried with him out of bondage. He quickly found prosperity with his talent, in fact he leveraged it for the next 80 years to earn his keep as a free man. He earned acclaim from far and wide with his exceptional flavors, keeping his talents in strong demand until the time of his death at 108 years of age!
